2020 Vermont Milk Bowl Preview: By the Numbers

It’s almost time for the 58th Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank! With 57 previous editions, the event is rich in history — but some things stand out more than others. Here are the numbers you need to know as we get ready for Booth Bros./H.P. Hood Qualifying Day on Saturday, October 3 and the Milk Bowl on Sunday, October 4!

1 — The Milk Bowl has been shortened to two segments only once in its 57-event history. The third segment was rained out in 1979.

Thunder Road Moving Ahead with Milk Bowl Friday Program

Barre, VT — After consulting with various weather forecasters, Thunder Road officials have elected to move ahead with the Mekkelsen RV Milk Bowl Friday program on Friday, October 2 as originally planned.

The event is currently slated for a 6:00pm post time with a Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Model open practice from 12:30 to 3:00pm. The schedule is subject to change pending further developments. Further updates will be posted at www.thunderroadvt.com and on the track’s social media pages.

Concerns had been raised in recent days over whether the Friday night event could be held as scheduled due to potential rain. However, recent forecasts indicate that inclement weather should move out of the Central Vermont area earlier than initially thought. With the outlook trending in a positive direction, and one of the Friday night divisions unable to return in the case of a postponement, officials have made the call to proceed with the event.

The Mekkelsen RV Milk Bowl Friday program is headlined by the Prelude to the Milk Bowl 150 for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Models. The PASS Modifieds, Honey Badger Bar & Grill Street Stock Series, and North East Mini Stock Tour have a trio of 50-lap features.

Walk-up tickets will be available for Mekkelsen RV Milk Bowl Friday in the Upper Grandstand, Turn 4, and Bud Hill seating areas. Admission is $20 for adults and $5 for kids ages 12 and under. The front gates open at 3:00pm.

The Friday night event is the start of a three-day extravaganza to conclude the 2020 Thunder Road season. Booth Bros./H.P. Hood Qualifying Day on Saturday, October 3 at 1:00pm will feature time trials and 50-lap qualifying races to help set the field for the 58th Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank. The Last Chance Qualifier goes green on Sunday, October 4 at 12:15pm with the three-segment Milk Bowl to follow.

The Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, Allen Lumber Street Stocks, Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors, 7-Eleven Dwarf Cars, and Junior Champ Karts are also in action throughout the weekend. Visit www.thunderroadvt.com for the full schedule of events.

Advance tickets for Saturday and Sunday are still available at https://happsnow.com/event/Thunder-Road-Speedbowl. Pit passes will be sold at the track on race day. Visit www.thunderroadvt.com to find health and safety requirements for attendees.
