Thunder Road Season Opener Postponed Due to Snow, Scheduling

The start of the 60th season of racing at Barre’s Thunder Road will have to wait one more week. Track management has officially postponed the season-opening Community Bank N.A. 150 to Sunday, May 5 at 1:30pm.

The decision was made due to a combination of leftover snow at the track and an additional rescheduling involving the American-Canadian Tour (ACT). Thunder Road, as well as the rest of Vermont, received a significant amount of snow over the winter. Even with three weeks remaining before the opener, it was looking increasingly unlikely the remaining snow would melt in time to complete necessary preseason preparations at the facility.

The postponement was sealed when the ACT Late Model Tour season opener at Maine’s Oxford Plains Speedway was also postponed. That event has been moved to Sunday, April 28, the day the Community Bank N.A. 150 was initially scheduled for. As such, the Thunder Road opener has been moved back one week to Sunday, May 5.

“Winter hit us pretty bad this year, and it may not be done yet,” Thunder Road managing partner Cris Michaud said. “We held out hope as long as we could, but even if the ACT opener hadn’t also been postponed, there’s just too much snow still left at Thunder Road. We think an extra week will do a lot of good for the track and ground conditions, and we look forward to seeing everyone in May.”

The annual Thunder Road Car Show and open practice session have also been postponed to Saturday, May 4. The car show location is to-be-determined.

Thunder Road will open its 60th season of racing on Sunday, May 5 at 1:30pm with the 21st Community Bank N.A. 150. The stars of both the ACT Late Model Tour and Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models will be on hand for 150 laps of thrilling action. They’ll be joined by the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, Allen Lumber Street Stocks, and Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors. Admission is $25 for adults and free for kids ages 12 and under.
