Barre, VT — Thunder Road’s Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tiger class will have some extra cash up for grabs at Barre Granite Association Championship Night on Friday, September 18. Track officials recently announced that the 100-lap finale of the Myers Container Service Triple Crown Series will award $1,000 to the winner, making it the highest-paying event in years for the track’s longest-running division.

A huge field was already expected even prior to the four-figure prize being posted. All the top weekly and Triple Crown Series racers will be on-hand, including track point leader Jason Woodard, Triple Crown point leader Brandon Lanphear, multi-time 2020 winner Michael Martin, and leading rookie Kasey Beattie. Several White Mountain Motorsports park regulars are also rumored to be invading the Barre high banks to try and steal the glory.

The 100-lapper is a capstone to the most successful Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tiger season in recent memory. At least 28 cars have rolled through the pit gates at each of their 13 Thunder Road events, making them the highest-drawing division every time out. A talented crop of drivers has produced outstanding racing night-in and night-out with 11 different winners. Several current Street Stock drivers already are planning to move up to the Flying Tigers in 2021, meaning the division will continue to flourish.

Now the current stars get 100 laps to show their stuff as part of a Friday night end-of-summer spectacular. Both the weekly Flying Tiger championship and the Triple Crown championship are on the line along with the $1,000 top prize, meaning the intensity will be sky-high.

“For nearly 40 years, the Flying Tigers have been the heart and soul of Thunder Road,” managing partner Cris Michaud said. “This year shows exactly why. The support from the Flying Tiger division is a big part of why we’ve been able to navigate the many challenges related to the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic. Paying $1,000 to win in the 100-lapper is our thank-you to the Flying Tigers for being there when the track and its fans needed them.”

Thunder Road crowns its 2020 track champions on Barre Granite Association Championship Night next Friday, September 18 at 6:30pm. The 2020 “King of the Road” will be decided in a special 61-lap showdown for the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models to honor Thunder Road’s 61st season.
