rk Miles Street Stocks Surge to Top Weekly Division at Thunder Road in 2022
/Barre, VT — It was a banner year for the four-cylinder rk Miles Street Stocks at Thunder Road this summer. Between having the highest average car count at the highbanked quarter-mile in 2022, the Street Stocks enjoyed some of the most competitive racing of the season and battled hard with their new contingency sponsors in mind all the way to September’s Championship night.
The rk Miles Street Stocks enjoyed an average car count of 30.29 in seventeen events this summer making this division’s championship one of the toughest to earn in 2022. Thirty-nine different drivers and teams entered the Thunder Road gates throughout the year, all looking to nab the gold with thirteen different drivers able to enter the winner’s circle at least once.
The high-water-mark car count for the year was 33, which happened twice. The Summer book-ending Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic and Labor Day Classic presented by New England Federal Credit Union were two jam-packed Sunday shows that held those 33-car features with eventual champion Dean Switser Jr. and James Dopp taking the holiday wins.
On top of all that, ten different drivers were able to take home the all-new Two Brothers Recycling Hard Charger Award. Coming on board in 2022 to give the Street Stockers a little something more to race for, St. Johnsbury’s Two Brothers Recycling handed out a cash award of $50 each week to the highest finishing rk Miles Street Stock driver who passed the most cars in that week’s feature event. Three different drivers tied for the most cars passed with Taylor Hoar, Jesse Laquerre and Mike ‘Biffer’ Gay each able to overtake 18 cars in events this season.
Thunder Road officials are excited to see what’s in store for the rk Miles Street Stocks in 2023 with some expected to climb the ladder into the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers and several new faces expected to join the four-cylinder frey!
