Last Thursday Night at Thunder Road Promises Plenty of Thrills with Annual Return of Run-What-U-Brung
/Barre, VT — Yes folks, it is unbelievably time for the final Thursday night event of the 2022 season at Barre, Vermont’s Thunder Road with Jet Service Envelope & Accura Printing Night on Thursday, August 25th. Not only that, but it’s also time for the return of Run-What-U-Brung, the spectator drags that every Thunder Road fan looks forward to with some getting in on the action at their favorite hometown racetrack!
Run-What-U-Brung is simple; Bring your 18-and-older self to the Pit Gate before 6:30pm with your valid driver’s license in your four-wheeled registered, inspected and insured vehicle. Bring an approved safety helmet, long-sleeve shirt and pants to wear plus a good pair of boots or sneakers as no open-toed shoes or Crocs are allowed! Make sure you aren’t bringing any passengers along and be one of the first 50 to register. After that, it’s all on you to win the show or be the show as part of the always exciting Run-What-U-Brung competition!
Alongside the annual amateur madness, the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Model championship fight has tightened up considerably over the last two weeks. Graniteville’s Christopher Pelkey continues to hold on to a five-point lead over Montpelier’s Kyle Pembroke while former dark horse candidate, Milton’s Scott Dragon, has moved to just seven points behind Pelkey in third.
Dragon stands a good chance of join Chuck Beede, Phil Scott, Cris Michaud, Derrick O’Donnell and Jason Corliss as the sixth three-time Late Model champion at Thunder Road should he continue his fast and competitive pace. Aside from the top three, don’t sleep on Graniteville’s Stephen Donahue or Wolcott’s Marcel Gravel either. Both young-guns continue to have a mathematical shot at their first King of the Road track title with just two weekly point-counting events left.
Coming off a strong showing with a 29-car field last Thursday night, the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers continue to be led by Milton’s Sam Caron. Caron has lead Williston’s Justin Prescott and Hinesburg’s Derrick Calkins over the past month while defending Flying Tiger track champion Mike Martin has been consistently climbing the points ladder over the past month. After three-straight weeks of first time wins on the season, anything can happen in this intensely competitive division.
After staying in the top-5 in points all season long, Berlin’s Kyler Davis took down his first win in the rk Miles Street Stocks. Consistency has kept Davis and Waterford’s Dean Switser Jr. on top of the four-cylinder division that has averaged just over 30 cars this season. Three-peat winner Josh Lovely continues to hold strong in third, looking to continue his ongoing top-10 streak as he hopes for a little more luck in the final three point-counting races.
Everyone’s favorite Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors also return on the final Thursday Night of the season following Ryan Foster’s first win last week. With several more first-timers looking for a win at the Nation’s Site of Excitement, alongside the diverse field of veteran racers, it’s always the question of ‘Who’s Next’ in the fun novice class. Could it be another celebration for ‘Creature,’ ‘Tater’ or ‘Flyin’ Fred or could one of the new kids on the block take everyone by storm? Stop in on Jet Service Envelope & Accura Printing Night and find out!
