Thunder Road Teams Gear Up for FloRacing Double Purse on Vermont Tire & Service Night

Barre, VT — Thunder Road is back in action this Thursday, August 17th for Vermont Tire & Service Night featuring the second FloRacing Double Purse of the season for all four divisions plus the family-favorite Kids Poster Contest! Kiddos are encouraged to create a poster of their favorite Thunder Road drivers with trophies given out for the top-three posters in three separate divisions: Ages 5 and under, 6 to 10 and 10 and up!

While Nick Sweet has continued his stand atop the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Model championship chase, Wolcott, Vermont’s Marcel Gravel has jumped headlong into the second-position while Scott Dragon and Stephen Donahue were mired in traffic during last Friday’s 50-lap feature. While Donahue remains in the chase just 26-points back, defending champion Chris Pelkey and top rookie Kaiden Fisher complete the top-five chasers going into their second FloRacing Double Purse of the season on Vermont Tire & Service Night.

Colchester’s Sam Caron continues to hold a 19-point lead over Barre’s Jason Pelkey in the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers as Caron proves week in and week out that consistency is key. Waterbury Center’s Kyle Streeter remains solidly in third followed by South Hero’s Rich Lowrey and Friday’s green-to-checkers winner Logan Powers. The Tigers go for an action-packed 40-lap feature on Thursday’s Vermont Tire & Service Night in preparation for their rescheduled 100 lap Cody Chevrolet Cadillac feature on Sunday, August 20th.

The rk Miles Street Stocks have a runaway at the top of the heap between Northfield’s James Dopp and East Montpelier’s Cam Powers. While the two top dogs are separated by a mere 7-points, third-place, first-time winner Trevor Jaques sits 42-points back in third. Milton’s Jaques is far from out of the money, consistently posting top-10 finishes after starting deep in the 30+ four-cylinder fields, but it’s still going to take a lot to catch up to Dopp and Powers. The two have been flip-flopping the top spot since opening day and aren’t showing any signs of slowing down, especially with the upcoming FloRacing Double Purse on tap!

The Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors are also looking to get a taste of that FloRacing Double Purse on Vermont Tire & Service Night after coming off their annual 50-lap challenge last Friday. Corey Martin has come out of nowhere in the last two weeks, gaining his first win in post-race technical inspection on July 30th and coming on strong halfway through Friday’s 50-lapper to earn the first on-track win for the Northfield driver. Williamstown’s Nate ‘Tater’ Brien will be looking to bounce back from last week’s mechanical problems on a lucrative Thursday night at Thunder Road as will the rest of the wild and wacky field!
