Plenty of First Time Winners at ‘The Road’ in 2024!
/Barre, VT — Every driver remembers their first win at Thunder Road and 2024 brought several drivers that first memory for many on several special occasions this summer. The Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors once again led the first time winners category in 2024, beginning on Community Bank opening day as Kendall Zeno started the trend on a balmy Saturday night in May!
The season opening month of May continued to showcase up and coming talent with Williamstown’s Matt Ballard finally nabbing his first Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tiger victory in front of the packed Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic crowd. Newtown, Connecticut’s Stephen Kopcik made the trek north for the holiday special, claiming his first Monaco Modified victory on the Thunder Road highbanks for a popular first career win to start the open wheeled season.
While June was a slump for the first time winners club, July brought all the heart-warming feelings back to the forefront beginning over the Fourth of July holiday grind! Justin Prescott took down his first career Maplefield/Irving Oil Late Model win in front of the packed Preston’s Kia Independence Day Spectacular crowd with ‘The Frickin Chicken’ Brodie Frazier earning his first top marks in the Road Warriors just two days later on the Jack Daniels Cocktails Sunday special.
The 1st annual Superstars of Thunder Road Double Feature Night was a torrid affair for the first time winners with longtime Road Warrior pilot Nick Copping finally grabbing the brass ring in Feature #1 to claim his first win at The Road! In the second round of features, Barre’s Chris LaForest bettered his first feature finish by just one spot to take his first Flying Tiger win while Marshfield’s Kylee Potter stood tall as the next generation of victorious Potters at the Nation’s Site of Excitement in the rk Miles Street Stocks! Another longtime runner Dan Garrett, Jr. finally took his first Road Warrior win to round out July on Times Argus Midseason Championship night!
August saw Georgia’s Paul Rocheleau take his first Street Stock win on WDEV Radio/Calkins Portable Toilets night with Derek Farnham getting his first victory just ten days later on Vermont Lottery night. Similarly, Milton’s Zach Garvey and Marshfield’s Cayden Green also took their first Road Warrior wins.
Rounding out the year, Craftsbury Common’s Stephen Martin finally nailed down his first Late Model win on McGee Hyundai Super Friday with Graniteville’s Derrick Mann climbing to the top of the Road Warriors for the first time. The Northfield Savings Bank Vermont Milk Bowl weekend delivered one final first-timer with Williamstown’s Jimmy Hebert, the 2009 50th anniversary Flying Tiger track champion, nabbing his first Pro All Stars Series win on Booth Bros/Hood Milk Bowl Qualifying Saturday!
Year 65 has been officially completed at Thunder Road International Speedbowl. Officials have finalized and released 2025 rules packages and schedule.
