NELCAR Legends Make Thunder Road Debut on Vermont Milk Bowl Weekend!

Barre, VT — Thunder Road officials announced today an exciting addition to the 63rd Vermont Milk Bowl weekend presented by Northfield Savings Bank. Along with the most intense qualifying action of the season, the Maine-based NELCAR Legends will make their Thunder Road debut on Saturday, October 4 during the Booth Bros./Hood Milk Bowl Qualifying Day!

The Legend car came about in 1992 as officials at Charlotte Motor Speedway noticed a need for low-cost, entry level divisions to boost short track racing across the continent. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Legend car in 2022, these scaled down machines resembling the coupes of old race all across the world on asphalt and dirt ovals, road courses and everything in between!

The NELCAR Legends are a traveling band of drivers young and old, many of whom also chase track championship and national championship points across New England. NELCAR will also make three stops at White Mountain Motorsports Park in 2025 while tracks like Star Speedway, the New London-Waterford Speedbowl and Seekonk Speedway have the Legends as part of their track championship seasons.

“This is something we’ve been looking to do for a long time,” said Thunder Road general manager Cale King. “NELCAR approached us recently with a number of open dates and when October 4th was free it was a no-brainer. The Legends will have a great debut on Milk Bowl weekend and we’re all looking forward to it.”

The $100,000 63rd Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank begins in earnest on Saturday, October 4 with Booth Bros./Hood Qualifying Day. Headlined by Time Trials and ‘Triple 50’ Heat Races for the Maplefields/Irving Oil Late Models, the Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers and rk Miles Street Stocks will also compete in Segment #1 of their Mini Milk Bowls. Booth Bros./Hood Qualifying Day will also feature special features for the New England Supermodified Series and the Thunder Road debut of the NELCAR Legends! Sunday, October 5 brings ‘the Toughest Short Track Stock Car Race in North America’ with the 63rd running of the Vermont Milk Bowl presented by Northfield Savings Bank.

The road to the Vermont Milk Bowl begins with the 27th annual Community Bank, n.a. 150 for the Milton CAT American-Canadian Tour on Sunday, May 4.
