Moodie and Streeter Capitalize on Vermont Tire & Service Night Tiger Double Features
/Barre, VT — The Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers got the show started on Thursday with their rain-delayed second round of the Myers Container Service Triple Crown. The extra-distance affair began as front-row starters Cameron Ouellette and Brendan Moodie battled hard in the opening circuits, Moodie taking the early lead. Two-by-two three rows deep behind them saw a spirited battle between a six-pack of heavy hitters, riding it out in the early stages and waiting for the perfect opportunity to pounce. Triple Crown point leader Sam Caron would bite the dust on lap 23 with a broken right-front suspension component sending him into the turn one wall with Adam Maynard and Matt Ballard piling in. After leading from the restart, Brendan Moodie would dominate his way to Myers Container Service victory lane with Jason Pelkey in second and Logan Power just barely edging Cameron Ouellette at the line for third.
The Flying Tigers returned later in the program with Mike Billado and Sam Caron at the helm of the 40-lap Vermont Tire & Service trophy dash. Digging deep for the FloRacing Double Purse, and to recoup his point losses in the extra-distance opener, Sam Caron charged into the lead around Billado on lap 4 with Kyle Streeter hot-to-trot behind him. A blown-out wheel for Cameron Ouellette brought the first caution on lap 12 with Kyle Streeter besting Caron on the restart green. With the race continuing straight through to the double checkered flags, Kyle Streeter took down his third win of the season followed by Sam Caron and Cooper French on the podium.
Eric MacLaughlin and Kylee Potter brought the rk Miles Street Stock field to green with MacLaughlin quickly falling back with a right-front tire rub giving Potter the full advantage. By lap eight, two time division champion Jamie Davis made his way to the outside of Potter with the two remaining side-by-side before ‘The Biffer’ Mike Gay and Trevor Jaques slid across the frontstretch to call out the yellow flag on lap 10. Potter would take the jump on the restart as Davis held his own on the outside lane with Haidyn Pearce and Tyler Whittemore riding the momentum down low. Whittemore would swap lanes to power around the rookie until Potter and multiple others ended up in the infield on lap 20. On the restart Tyler Whittemore would take his first win of the season followed by Todd Raymo and at the line.
The Maplefield/Irving Late Models were next up on the Barre highbanks under the command of Darrell Morin and Scott Coburn. Coburn would take sole possession of first place spot with Chip Grenier beginning to make his way to the front. While Coburn and Grenier ran similar lap times again and again, rookie Jesse Laquerre grew closer to Grenier’s rear-bumper in third place as the three spread father ahead of fourth and fifth-place runners Jason Corliss and Justin Prescott. With ten laps remaining the field caught up to Coburn with Corliss feeling pressure from point leaders Kaiden Fisher and Scott Dragon on the outside groove. Corliss would lead lap 46 and take it all the way to the checkered flag over Kaiden Fisher with Chris Pelkey coming home third.
The Burnett Scrap Metals Road Warriors rounded out the Vermont Tire & Service program on Thursday night. Branden Premont got the action started early while Eddie Thompson quickly found himself up front battling for position. Two mid-race cautions re-racked the field leaving veterans Tyler Wheatley and Nate Brien to duke it out over the final five circuits with Wheatley taking his first win of the season with the FloRacing double purse and Nate ‘Tater’ Brien taking second and Derrick Mann rounded out the podium in third.
